AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES

unique, local, food-Led Experiences in Sydney.

Most travellers leave Australia saying, “I came all the way to Australia but never got to try real Australian food.” Native Australian food can be hard to find and even harder to experience properly. We change that.

The Australian Food Guy is a Sydney‑based tourism business creating premium, host‑led food journeys that connect travellers with local producers, culture, and native Australian flavours. Our tours go beyond restaurants, offering behind‑the‑scenes access to markets, distilleries, and makers, paired with relaxed, story‑driven hosting in some of Sydney’s most iconic locations, from the Sydney Fish Market to Bondi Beach.

An amazing experience that we would do over and over again. We booked a private tour for 3 adults and one teen, which, you could imagine could be a challenge to find an schedule that meets everyone's wants and interests, and the Food Guy sure did it! We began at the fish market with a lite snack and flat whites, then off to the beach for some time in the sand and water and a sea side picnic, from there a little shopping at the Rocks market and a perfect recomendation for a opal shop, ending with Haighs chocolate. A perfect day custom made for us. THANK YOU!

David was great! He was super passionate about local/authentic Australian food and has paired with people and companies that are also authentic and passionate about their local specialities (coffee and rum). You can tell he has put a lot of thought into his tour and the information he is passing along, and especially the food being specific to Australia! Great tour, great company, great time! Thank you, David!!!!

This was hands down one of the most unique and incredible tour experiences I've ever had in Sydney! The Australian Food Guy “Dave” truly delivers on his promise to give visitors a taste of authentic, native Aussie food. The guided foraging tour was a fascinating introduction to ingredients I never knew existed, and our expert local guide was a wealth of knowledge, sharing captivating stories of Sydney's history and design, all with the iconic Opera House in the background. The tasting experience was a definite highlight. We sampled native plants, delicious dips, and honeys, all of which were surprisingly flavorful and unlike anything I'd tried before. The bush tucker hamper lunch, with its kangaroo salami, cheeses, and other treats, was the perfect finale, especially when paired with a chilled sparkling wine. This tour is a must-do for anyone who wants to go beyond the typical tourist experience and truly connect with Australia's natural and culinary heritage. I can't recommend it enough!

My partner and I did the 'Native Australian Food, Oysters, Distillery & Coffee Tour' with my mum-in-law, and just wow.

We started at the Sydney Fish Markets, which was super easy to get to by tram. We met David and kicked things off with the freshest Sydney Rock oysters, paired with white wine from a local Indigenous producer, honestly the best white wine I’ve ever had. There was a beautiful sauce, native finger limes, dried native fruits added to the wine, and salt bush flavour for our sparkling water. David then pulled out a couple of native food hampers, and they blew us all away. I’ve tried to find authentic bush foods before and it’s near impossible, this was packed with Aussie goodness: dried mango, fresh passionfruit, kangaroo and truffle pork salami, and an award-winning eucalyptus-smoked cheddar. Everyone went back for seconds of the saltbush za’atar pita and the lemon myrtle scones, which were clearly made with love. The olives and Davidson plum jam was my personal favourite. My partner’s pick was the wattleseed damper.

We left the markets completely full of incredible food and wine and headed to a rum distillery. I knew nothing about rum going in, and left feeling like an expert. They put a spin on traditional rum, we got to sample a few styles, and the coffee and coconut were my favs. With an extra buzz from the rum tasting, we pulled up to the most charming little cafe, a total hidden gem. Terrance was the heart of it. He and his dad built the place from scratch, and it showed in every detail. They roast their own beans and make their own creamy chocolate, both next-level. Terrance walked us through what makes a proper Aussie coffee, from bean to pour. We tried matcha, iced coffee, cappuccino, latte, turmeric latte, and a spread of sweets and local honey. Top picks were the iced coffee, the brownie, and definitely the Bilpin honey. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave, Terrance made it feel like home.

What made this tour so good wasn’t just the food, though that was incredible, it was the way the whole thing came together. Every place we visited had a story, every bite had meaning, and nothing felt rushed or random. David tied it all together. He’s the kind of guide who makes you feel welcome straight away, but also knows his stuff inside out. His love for native Australian ingredients is contagious. By the end, we all felt like old friends, leaving in the best mood. What an unforgettable day. Thank you David!

This food tour was a standout experience that beautifully showcased Australian native ingredients and craft products. From the start, we were treated to a fascinating and flavorful exploration of local cuisine, featuring items like Sydney/pacific oysters topped with zesty finger lime, kangaroo salami, bee pollen, and a range of single-origin honey tastings that highlighted the diversity of regional flora.

A highlight of the day was the rum distillery tour, where we had the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes with the master distiller. The deep dive into the rum-making process was both educational and engaging, capped off with a guided tasting of several premium rums.

The tour continued with coffee and chocolate tastings, where we learned about the art of coffee roasting and chocolate tempering. Tasting handcrafted chocolate while understanding the techniques behind its creation made it even more enjoyable.

Our guide, Dave, was exceptional — knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely friendly. His enthusiasm and deep understanding of both the culinary elements and local culture made the experience even more memorable.

Overall, this tour is a must-do for anyone looking to discover authentic Australian flavors and craftsmanship in a fun, informative setting.
